Origins and development

Paul Freye and Franz Seeck planned the cemetery; it was inaugurated on 22 May 1920.

Origins: 1920. The cemetery is in Osterholz, at Osterholzer Heerstraße 32–34, 28327 Bremen. Its area is approximately 76 hectares.

Design and present-day character

A large park cemetery with three chapels and six war-grave sections. The grounds are protected as a garden monument.

Read this character description together with the development of Osterholz Cemetery: it identifies what gives the grounds their present identity without turning the cemetery into a purely historical attraction. A visit can focus on spatial structure and named orientation points while leaving individual graves undisturbed.

Connect the account with the grounds

The cemetery map contains 9 named places for Osterholz Cemetery. Among them are Main entrance, Main chapel, Two mourning women. Use these names to relate the historical account to locations visible during a visit, without assuming that every historical feature has its own marker.
